GCTE Future Teachers of Color award

Winners will receive $250.00 to offset costs for attending the current academic year's GCTE conference. 

Who is Eligible?

To be eligible for this award, college or university students must be

  • English Language Arts Education majors,
  • first-time presenters at the GCTE Annual Conference,
  • persons of color, and
  • student teaching interns, recent completers of student teaching, or graduate students enrolled in English teacher preparation programs.


Guidelines for Proposed Student Conference Presentation

The GCTE Selection Committee will consider student proposals for conference presentations that meet one or more of these criteria:
  • Timeliness: Focus on a current issue in the teaching or learning of English Language Arts.
  • Theory: Explore the application of a theoretical framework to the teaching and learning of the English Language Arts.
  • Research: Focus on the use of new research or the creative use of known research to improve the teaching and learning of English Language Arts.
  • Pedagogy: Explore creative classroom practices in the teaching and learning of the English Languages Arts.


How to Apply

Nominees or applicants should prepare the following materials:
  • a completed conference proposal form 
  • a signed GCTE MOU (.pdf, Word)
  • a one-page statement about the student's career aspirations
  • a letter of recommendation from a faculty advisor

All materials should be combined into a single PDF document and submitted through the Future Teachers of Color application form.
